If you are planning on creating a reborn newborn doll yourself and using a vinyl doll kit you will begin with a “blank” doll created simply for reborning artists. You then painted the vinyl with Genesis heat set paints or artist acrylics with suggested usage of vinyl and employ various techniques to give the appearance of real baby skin. Real baby skin will depend on the ethnicity of the doll you want to create.
Hair and eyelashes will also need to be applied. Most reborn artists use fine mohair and a rooting tool to afix the hair to the head. This process alone could take a full day of round the clock work.
As you can already see sometimes it is best to find a finished reborn newborn instead of making one yourself.
If you continue on with your vinyl doll you will still need to replace the body section with a more realistic material and padding to get the effect of a real baby. Finally you may go so far as to add the extra embellishments that such as a magnetic pacifier or umbilical cord, a heartbeat simulator and a breathing simulator. There is no end to the ways you can make these dolls more realistic.
